"Absalon, fili mi" is a sacred motet for four voices composed by Josquin Des Prez (though it is attributed by some to Pierre de La Rue). First appearing in the Royal 8 G. vii manuscript dated sometime between 1513 and 1525, and first published in 1540,[1] the motet sets a variety of Biblical texts but primarily focuses on the death of David's son Absalom.[2]
The work was performed by the Virginia Glee Club during the Glee Club 1992-1993 season and appears on the recording Music for a Noble Acoustic.
