Virginia Glee Club Wiki

The 1937 Virginia Glee Club Concert at Randolph Macon was held March 1, 1937 as part of the Glee Club 1936-1937 season. Conducted by Harry Rogers Pratt, the concert featured works performed at other concerts in the season.

The Randolph-Macon Sun Dial reported:

The Glee Club is composed of fifty male voices. The group has toured extensively through the State of Virginia and has also given concerts in other states. Two years ago, they gave a series of concerts in New Orleans, and last year they not only sang in two recitals in New York but they also broadcasted over a national hook up of the Columbia Broadcasting System. A few weeks ago the Glee Club sang before a meeting of the Southern Society at the Waldorf Astoria. Last year marked the fiftieth anniversary of the organization.

One of the featured highlight of the program is "Ode to Business,” a composition of Daniel Gregory Mason, eminent New York composer. Marshall Bartholomew, who ha arranged several sea chanties which the Glee Club sings, say the male choral group is by far the best of its kind in the South.[1]
