List, 1976

Douglass William List was president of the Virginia Glee Club during the 1976-1977 season. He also served as business manager in 1974-1975 and tour manager in 1975-1976. He lived at 5 West Lawn[1] in 1976–1977. List was a member of the Virginia Gentlemen[2] 1974-1977 and its director 1975-1977. Other musical activities included one semester with the University Singers and one with the Pep Band. At the request of several members of the Virginia Women's Chorus in the spring of 1977, List co-founded and directed the second incarnation of Cantare Sine Nomine, an SATB classical a cappella group that performed at the Chapel in April, 1977.

Enrolled in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, List earned B.S.C.E. and M.S.C.E. degrees in parallel during his four years at UVa. Also active in student self-governance, he was president of the First Year Council in 1973-1974, a writer and debater with Students for an Effective Honor System during the honor system referendum in the spring of 1976, and co-author of the first written constitution for the Honor Committee - adopted by a student body referendum in the spring of 1977. The UVa Alumni Association conferred its Distinguished Student Award on him in April of 1977.

List became the first chairman of the board of the Virginia Glee Club Alumni and Friends Association in 2006. He received the Gilbert J. Sullivan Distinguished Service Award in 2016.
