Goetchius, 1947 Corks and Curls

Eugene Goetchius (March 26, 1921 in Augusta, Georgia – October 3, 2008)[1] was a member of the Virginia Glee Club during the Glee Club 1945-1946 and 1946-1947 seasons. He completed his undergraduate degree in 1941 and his graduate studies in 1947. While at the University of Virginia he was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Epsilon Pi, the Jabberwock Society, Dagger Society, College Topics, and was president of the student senate (1943), president of the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society, and associate editor and president of the board of directors of the Virginia Spectator.[2]

Following completion of his Master of Science in mathematics in 1947, he taught math and German at Woodberry Forest School, while working on his masters and Ph.D. in German, which were completed in 1949. He entered Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1949, completing his B.D. in 1952. While a student in theological school he taught math at Tufts University. Following his B.D. he taught at Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut for two years, then attended Union Theological Seminary (New York) for his Th.D.

He taught at Episcopal Divinity School from the 1950s until 1989.
