The Virginia Glee Club concert at the Jefferson Memorial in January 1993 was part of the Jefferson 250 celebrations. The group was conducted by assistant director Matt Benko as part of the Glee Club 1992-1993 season
The ceremony at the Jefferson Memorial was a commemoration of the right to religious freedom in America, and featured speeches and prayers from the Right Reverend Peter James Lee, the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia; former University of Virginia president Robert O'Neil; Virginia Lieutenant Governor Donald S. Beyer, Jr.; University of Virginia professor A.E. Dick Howard; Russell H. Chambliss; Rabbi Harold S. White, Jewish chaplain and Lecturer in Theology at Georgetown University, delivering a message from Elie Wiesel; Lodi Gyari, special envoy of the Dalai Lama; the Most Reverend David E. Foley, Auxiliary Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Richmond; and the Reverend Allix B. James, Chancellor of Virginia Union University.
