Frederic Ernest "Fritz" Nolting, Jr. (August 24, 1911 in Richmond, Virginia – 1989)[1][2] was a member of the Virginia Glee Club during the Glee Club 1930-1931, 1931-1932, 1932-1933, and 1933-1934 seasons. A graduate student in 1934, he held a B.A. from the University of Virginia and was also a member of Delta Psi, Skull and Keys, the German Club, Eli Banana, the Z Society, the Raven Society, Phi Beta Kappa, the varsity track squad, and was a member of the staffs of College Topics and Corks and Curls.[3] He lived in 26 East Lawn[4] in 1932–1933, in 22 East Lawn[4] in 1933–1934, and in 60 East Range[4] in 1939–1940.

He was appointed ambassador to Vietnam in 1961 by the Kennedy Administration, and sought to build support for the government of Ngo dinh Diem. An anti-Diem faction in the United States sought his replacement, and Nolting was recalled home; shortly after, Diem was assassinated, leading to the ascendancy of Ho Chi Minh.[5] After leaving the foreign service, Nolting went to work for the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company, and in 1970 joined the faculty of the University of Virginia and became founding director of the Miller Center of Public Affairs.
