John Craig Fennell was the interim conductor of the Virginia Glee Club in 1996. Taking over from John Liepold on the eve of the Tour of the Midwest, Fennell stayed as acting conductor until Bruce Tammen began as conductor after Christmas 1996.

Fennell joined the Glee Club in the 1992-1993 season as a graduate student and continued to perform as a student member in 1993-1994. He stayed on as a community member and assistant director of the group until 1996.

During Fennell's tenure, the group released its first compact disc recording, Notes from the Path, a compilation of recordings spanning from 1994 through 1996.

While at Virginia, Fennell also sang with the Virginia Gentlemen. The group's recording of his arrangement of Billy Pilgrim's "Insomniac" (called "the best all-male arrangement ever" by the Recorded A Cappella Review Board)[1] was selected for the second Best of Collegiate A Cappella (BOCA) compilation.
