Joseph Gilbert Faatz (September 29, 1914 in Newark, New Jersey – May 1, 2000), later known as Gil Fates,[1] was a member of the Virginia Glee Club during the Glee Club 1934-1935 and 1935-1936 seasons. He was a second year during 1934-1935,[2] and was also vice-president of the Virginia Players, an assistant on the University of Virginia Magazine, a member of Sigma Nu, and on the staff of College Topics.[3]
Fates began his career as a stage actor. During World War II he served in the United States Coast Guard, and was commanding officer of a rescue cutter in the English Channel during the allied invasion at Normandy.[4]
After the war he was a producer and actor, best known for his work on "What's My Line?," "To Tell the Truth," and "I've Got a Secret."[5]
