The McIntire Department of Music is the University of Virginia's academic department of music performance, theory, and composition. Originally funded by a donation from Charlottesville philanthropist Paul Goodloe McIntire, the department was home to the Virginia Glee Club from the early 1920s to 1989 and provided many of its conductors, including Arthur Fickenscher, Harry Rogers Pratt, Randall Thompson, Stephen Tuttle, Donald MacInnis, David Davis, Donald Loach, Michael Butterman (as a grad student), and Bruce Tammen. The department is housed in Old Cabell Hall.

The McIntire Department's decision in 1989 to end support for single-sex choral groups ended the nearly seventy-year curricular history of the Virginia Glee Club and caused it to pursue a course of independent existence.
