Michael Butterman is the conductor of the Boulder Philharmonic and the Shreveport Symphony, and was a director of the Virginia Glee Club from 1989 to 1991. He served as joint conductor of the group with Cheryl Brown-West in the first season after its separation from the University, then took over as solo conductor in 1990-1991 during the 120th anniversary year. Butterman was a grad student at the time, and left in 1991 to head to Indiana University in their conducting program. As an undergrad at the University, Butterman was a member of the Glee Club, serving as secretary during the Glee Club 1986-1987 season and vice president during the Glee Club 1987-1988 season, and also was a member in 1985-1986. This gives Butterman an unusual distinction: while there have been several Glee Club members who have served as conductor, he is the only conductor of the group to also have been an officer. In 1987–1988 he was a resident of 5 West Lawn[1].

In addition to his roles with the Boulder Philharmonic and the Shreveport Symphony, Butterman is director of outreach for the Rochester Philharmonic.[2]
