Nathan Moore (b. 1971) was a member of the Virginia Glee Club from 1989 to 1993. Known as "Pathfinder," he composed one of the Glee Club's commissioned settings of the Ave Maria chant. Moore's Ave Maria setting was premiered during the Glee Club 1992-1993 season.
"Notes from the Path"[]
Moore received the nickname of "Pathfinder" on the Glee Club's fall 1991 roll to Villanova, during which he successfully established the direction of North using Polaris, putting the group's lost tour bus back on the right road. Fellow Club member Tyler Magill said, "Nice navigation, Pathfinder," and the name stuck.
Later, Moore authored brief meditative essays on musicianship and the philosophy of Glee Club, and distributed them prior to rehearsals. The essays were titled "Notes from the Path." Club was to use the title for their first CD release, the 1996 recording Notes from the Path, and currently uses it for the title of the alumni newsletter.
