Robert Blakely Crawford, III[1] (February 4, 1875 – October 5, 1919)[2] was the conductor of the Virginia Glee Club in the spring of 1905 as part of the Glee Club 1904-1905 season,[3] as well as during the 1905-1906 season. He is known to have conducted the Glee and Mandolin Clubs in performance in Alexandria, Virginia on March 10, 1905.
Crawford graduated from the University of Virginia in 1906;[4] as a student he was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the Hot Feet, and the stage manager of the Arcadians.[5]
A medical student at the University of Virginia, Crawford married in 1912. His wife, Lizzie Florence Olney, came from a wealthy Newport (RI) family, and they built the Villa Crawford as their home, which is today the center of Keswick Hall.[6] The couple separated in 1918 and divorced in 1919. Olney married Henry Waldo Greenough, who became the step-father of Crawford's son Thomas.[7] Crawford was found dead in a Baltimore hotel room in October 1919.[8]
