Robert Earl Offenbacker (June 13, 1928 – October 23, 2014)[1][2] was a member of the Virginia Glee Club during the Glee Club 1946-1947 and 1947-1948 seasons.
Offenbacker completed graduate work in mathematics at the University of Virginia. He became a professor of mathematics at Randolph Macon College in 1958.[3] While a professor at Randolph Macon, he was chosen for induction into Chi Beta Phi, the national honorary science fraternity.[4]
His obituary in UVA Magazine read:
After serving in the U.S. Navy attached to the National Security Agency in Washington, D.C., he joined the mathematics faculty at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland in 1958, with the rank of full professor, where he was highly regarded by his colleagues and was often elected to serve on important committees. He retired in 1994. Mr. Offenbacker enjoyed learning and studying foreign languages, studying Latin liturgies and translating Luther’s German Bible into English.[1]
