Roland Thayer Sheets (April 18, 1939 in Charleston, West Virginia – May 24, 2016),[1] of Yorktown, Virginia, was a member of the Virginia Glee Club during the Glee Club 1958-1959 and 1959-1960 seasons. He was a recipient of the University of Virginia's first full baseball scholarship. Graduating in 1961, he was also a member of Beta Theta Pi and the baseball team.
After graduation, he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates before beginning a 41-year career with NASA.[2] He received a masters' degree from George Washington University in 1966. In 1993, he was inducted into the U.S. Space Foundation’s Technology Hall of Fame for helping create a "cool suit" for multiple sclerosis patients.[1]
