Thomas Lloyd Dabney (November 22, 1867 in New York, New York – December 15, 1922)[1] was vice-president of the Virginia Glee Club during the Glee Club 1886-1887 season.[2] He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1887 without a specific concentration.[3]
Dabney was the brother of University of Virginia history professor Richard Heath Dabney and the uncle of journalist and historian Virginius Dabney. After graduating, he began a career as an opera singer by appearing at a moment's notice in Faust in Boston,[4] and he performed in New York under the stage name Lloyd D'Aubigne,[5] appearing with the Metropolitan Opera Company and in Paris. During his seasons with the Met (1894 – 1897), he appeared as Faust, David (in Meistersinger), Tybalt (Roméo et Juliette), Walther (Tannhäuser), and Steersman (Tristan und Isolde).[6] He was forced to retire from the stage following a chronic illness and became a voice teacher.[7]
