The Tour of the South in spring 1992 was a weeklong tour by the Virginia Glee Club that was the highlight of the 1991-1992 season. The tour saw the group perform in venues in Chapel Hill, NC; Atlanta and Athens, GA; the Mississippi State House; and Loyola University, New Orleans, LA. The director for the tour was John Liepold.

The group recorded its performance in New Orleans as A Dove In The Hall.

Repertoire

Repertoire for the tour was a combination of Renaissance and 20th century compositions and newly commissioned works, including:

  • Lamentations of Jeremiah (Part I) (Thomas Tallis)
  • "De Profundis" (Arvo Pärt)
  • "Shenandoah" (arr. James Erb) (Glee Club commission)
  • "Come, Heavy Sleep" (Benjamin Broening) (Glee Club commission)
  • "The Good Old Song" (trad/E. A. Craighill)
