The Virginia Belles are the oldest all female a cappella vocal group at the University of Virginia. Founded in 1977 by Katherine (KaeRenae) Mitchell as a subset of the Virginia Women's Chorus, much as the Virginia Gentlemen was of the Virginia Glee Club, the Belles became an independently auditioned group in the late 1980s and continued to exist and perform during the Women's Chorus hiatus years from 1989 to 1994.[1]

The Belles have often participated in the Glee Club's Singfest fundraising concerts, performing in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
