William Roane Aylett, Jr., from Tappahannock, Virginia, was the author of the words to the University of Virginia football song "Oh, Carolina." Aylett's father, William Roane Aylett, attended the University from 1850 to 1854,[1] and served as a Colonel in the Army of Northern Virginia as part of Armistead's 2nd Brigade in the Battle of Gettsyburg.[2]

Aylett Jr. graduated from the University in 1895 as a Doctor of Medicine.[3] He settled in Tappahannock and practiced medicine there.[4]
